It is considered to be the animal with the longest scientific name.〔http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/accounts/Parastratiosphecomyia_stratiosphecomyioides/classification/〕 The ''Parastratiosphecomyia'', also known by its also long common name Southeast Asian soldier fly was discovered in 1923 by British entomologist Enrico Brunetti. ==Markings and Colorings== The ''Parastratiosphecomyia sphecomyioides'' exhibits an imperfect form of an adaptation called Batesian mimicry, where it has adapted the pattern and coloring of similar venomous and noxious species of Diptera, which enables them to avoid predators that actively avoid consuming such species.
